‘Save The Railway Inn’ Fundraiser Launched to Support Venue in Winchester
The ‘Save The Railway Inn’ fundraiser has been launched to support The Railway Inn, a Grassroots Music Venue in Winchester.
The Railway Inn is Winchester’s only Grassroots Music Venue. The operators regularly program live music, comedy nights, poetry evenings, regular film screenings and host youth projects. It has been a home for live music for over 40 years, from local artists to international touring bands.
The venue survived through the Covid-19 lockdowns, show cancellations and reduced capacity shows, but is still carrying debt from the lockdown periods. Throughout that time, rent payments didn’t stop, and bills still had to be paid, with venues not earning their regular income due to enforced closures and reductions in ticket and wet sales.
The venue operators at The Winchester have launched an online fundraiser to try and raise at least £35,000 to pay off the last of the venue’s Covid-era debt. Raising enough funds would mean that the operators can run sustainably, book more shows and invest in their space. They hope to relaunch and expand community events, including inclusive gigs, youth programmes, open mics and workshops. Supporters can claim a limited edition t-shirt by donating to the campaign online.
